Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy

What is it?

One way in which the NO More Fear program can be administered is using Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET)!

Virtual Reality (VR) is a set of 3D environments with which a person interacts in real-time, to gain a sense of immersion that is similar to that of a real situation. The simulated environments create a process that triggers the target emotion of fear in the client. The CFCBT was the first Western Canadian private clinic to use virtual reality for the treatment of anxiety disorders.

VRET is a great option as a stand-alone treatment, or in conjunction with the NO More Fear program.

How does it help?

1. It helps to reduce anxiety and fear: Exposure therapy is an effective way to reduce anxiety and fear associated with specific situations or objects. By gradually exposing the person to the feared stimulus, the person learns that the feared outcome is unlikely to occur.

2. It helps to desensitize the person: Exposure therapy helps to desensitize the person by gradually increasing the intensity of the exposure. This helps the person to become less sensitive to the stimulus over time.

3. It helps to build confidence: Exposure therapy helps the person to build confidence in their ability to manage anxiety and fear. As they face their fears and overcome them, they gain a sense of control and mastery over their anxiety.

4. It helps to improve quality of life: Exposure therapy can help people to overcome their fears and anxieties, which can lead to an improvement in their quality of life. They may be able to participate in activities that they previously avoided due to their fears.

5. It is a relatively short-term therapy: Exposure therapy is often a short-term therapy, which means that people can see results relatively quickly. This can be beneficial for people who are looking for a quick and effective solution to their anxiety or fear.
